Holiday Fun In The D
Don’t let the short, cold days and the busyness of the season get you down. If you’re lacking in holiday spirit, the cure is right in the heart of our great city. Campus Martius is teeming with holiday lights, a spectacular Christmas tree, 26-foot menorah, the world’s largest Kwanzaa kinara and the world’s tallest Salvation Army red kettle all in the span of a quarter-mile radius, hours of entertainment and shopping are within reach.
Put on your skates and experience one of the most iconic skating rinks in the country at The Rink at Campus Martius Park. Surrounded by the city skyline, you can glide on the same ice as famous gold-medalists and US champions. Just steps away in Cadillac Square are the fabulous Detroit Market vendors, 18 boutique shops set in shipping containers featuring gifts and stocking stuffers that will bring smiles to any recipient. The shops feature everything from clothing and jewelry to pet products and custom charcuterie and the majority of featured entrepreneurs are women of color, highlighting the diversity of the city
After doing some shopping, grab a drink and a snack as you warm up in the Cadillac Lodge. And then head over to the Monroe Street Midway, home to puck-putt golf, the arctic slide, bumper cars on ice and an arcade filled with family-fun games.
There’s even more holiday fun just a few blocks from Campus Martius in Beacon Park. They’ve transformed the park into a winter wonderland with their own Christmas tree and a behind-the-scenes experience of Santa’s workshop with a Toyland light display, including toy train rides! Toyland runs through January 16th.
Spend a spirited day in the city this holiday season!
